Horns

When people ask what kind of hobby I have, I say, “I play horn.” These are my horns. From Front to back, left to right:

1929 Renee Duvall Compensating Double. Needs a LOT of work

1930 York Piston Horn in F. This is an actual horn, not a mellophone. It’s in pretty good shape and sounds pretty good.

1965 Conn 8D. This is my main horn that I play in the various groups I perform with. It’s a powerful instrument. It needs to be reconditioned, but I love it.

2004 Chinese double. eBay “special.” It doesn’t sound too bad, but the action is very heavy. I’ll mess with it more, some day.

Sydney is a fan of FoodTV’s Challenge, particularly the pastry competitions. She is interested in sugar work. I’ve made candy in the past, so we decided to try and melt some sugar. The blob on top is an example of sugar gone wrong, and crystallizing. The others were clear, or would be but I’d “molded” them in textured silicone cups.

We were at the pool when all the sudden the wind kicked up and the clouds moved in. We got the kids out, looked at the radar and called it a day.
